How can you ensure that your struggling readers have access to
texts they can easily read?
I think the key is to properly organize the class’s books and literature according to genre and skill so students will know what they are dealing with and not attempt to just pull any random book of a shelf that may not be what they are looking for. There should also be enough of a variety of leveled and appropriate for students so they can access text on their specific level of reading ability and comprehension. A teacher should want students to have access books they can accurately read and perhaps have some background knowledge on as well, to help with comprehension.
2. How can you foster a learning environment in which students have many opportunities to practice reading?
As with most skills, extensive practice is the way to go to properly master fluency in reading. By allotting enough time and opportunities for all sorts of reading activities, a proper learning environment can be created. Independent library and silent reading time, read-aloud circle time, shared and side by side reading, and choral reading in the classroom are all examples of activities that can be implemented to promote fluency and practice reading.
3. Describe ways in which you can model fluent reading in your classroom throughout the day.
During read-aloud activities, I can model fluent readings, either during circle time or during small group activities . Generally reading aloud is the best way of modeling , so with any reading material presented in any subject in class, reading it aloud, whether alone or through choral reading, is great way to promote and model fluency.
